Seaweed: The Next (Re)Generation

Total Raised
$ 130800

In 2022, we aimed to raise $50,000 for this cause and we bloody smashed our target. Together with the community and The Intrepid Foundation, Planet Broadcasting raised $130,961 for this cause.

Why raise money for Seaweed and Climate change?

Climate change: there is no ignoring it. Today’s youth are going to live in a world where droughts, heat waves, and hurricanes become more extreme; rising sea levels displacing communities is going to become the norm. Solutions to reverse climate change exist, but we all must take action and embrace them.

That’s why we worked with The Intrepid Foundation to remove additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

As the search for solutions continues, one unlikely hero is making waves: seaweed. Together with The Climate Foundation and the University of Tasmania, The Intrepid Foundation support an innovative marine permaculture initiative aimed at regenerating kelp forests. The project set up Australia’s first seaweed platform – one of the key solutions to climate change featured in 2040 – off Tasmania’s eastern coast. The seaweed platform has become home to floating kelp forests, which continue to grow, attract and feed fish, and provide the same sustainable harvest and ecosystem functions as natural kelp forests.

In 2022, we aimed to raise $50,000 AUD for the seaweed solution to help reverse global warming. Every donation made was matched dollar for dollar by The Intrepid Foundation and together, we smashed our target, raising $130,961.

UNICEF

Total Raised
$ 39500 +

In 2016, Planet Broadcasting partnered with UNICEF Australia to raise vital funds to support children affected by the crisis in Syria.

The response was incredibly positive with 3,965 donations made, raising a staggering $39,580.

As a result of Planet Broadcasting, and their fans, UNICEF have been able to support children in Syria and surrounding refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and Egypt. This life-saving support is provided in the form of shelter, nutrition, clean water and sanitisation, temporary learning spaces and psychosocial services.

Why this cause?

The humanitarian crisis remains severe. Approximately 16.5 million people are in need of assistance, with ongoing violence contributing to displacement and casualties. The UNHCR projects that around 1 million Syrian refugees may return to the country in the first half of 2025, though conditions within Syria remain precarious.

“Thank you all for believing that all children deserve a chance, especially for those living through the Syria Crisis.”
